Monday 9-20-10
This summer during Summit's ServeRDU, my friend and I spent a day serving at a charter school. We shoveled mulch all day and got to talk to the principal (who goes to West Club) about the school. Since I'm not in any education classes yet at UNC and really want to, I don't know, actually go inside a classroom every once in a while, I've been going over to Joy twice a week for an hour in the afternoon to help first graders with their reading. Its been so much fun and I can't wait to start education classes next year. I'm also working on convincing my friend, Rebecca, that she should be a teacher not a nurse.
Some of my favorite college experiences were volunteering in schools. Reminded me that the world was bigger than my university. Do you know Abby Hernandez - she works there?
