Thanks for the idea, Ashley!!

Candy from the Student Store to make studying more fun. Also, it proved as a good incentive- after every page that I read, I ate a sour patch kid.

Even Davis can have a pretty view

An encouraging and convicting thought

Tonight at small group, one of my leaders, Lauren, shared a story that a woman at her home church in Asheville told her. (sorry, I don't remember all the details of the story, so I'm going to paraphrase)

Lauren was talking to a woman who has spent the last several years living and working in Thailand. She told the story of how when she was preparing to leave for the first time, a woman told her that if a woman goes overseas single, there is a 90% chance that she will remain single for the rest of her life.

Lauren's friend looked back at her and said, "If God is calling me to be single, then I will be single whether I live overseas or in North Carolina. If He wants me to be married, then I will be married no matter where He sends me."

This statement of faith both encourages me and convicts me.

It encourages me to be reminded that all my worrying is absolutely pointless. God is in control and His will will be done no matter where I go or what I do.

It convicts me because I know that I do not have the trust to say that. Even tonight as Lauren told this story, but stomach sank and then flipped 5,000 times just hearing that "90%". I mean 90% is a REALLY high percentage! And that terrifies me.

I want the kind of faith to say, "God, you have control, your will be done. I trust completely in you and the plan that you have for my life." I want faith like Peter, to step out onto the stormy sea with my eyes on Jesus, knowing that HE won't let me sink.

God, give me that kind of faith.

Sorry, my life is getting boring again

Sunday 10-14-10

Sorry guys, but life might be boring for a little while. I have a ton of work coming up (I have a paper due on my birthday- how much does that stink!!), so there may be a few more pictures of Davis.

But for yesterday, I wanted to show you something that is totally exciting to me, but will probably mean very little to you.

My hair goes into a ponytail!!!

haha, I know- not very exciting, but I have so missed being able to pull my hair back since February when I chopped it all off. I can't wait to have long hair again!

16 days!!

It is the end of October right?

Saturday 10-23-10

There's no red leaves down here yet. In fact, my dad's roses are still blooming.

I mean it is fall right? Halloween is next week isn't it?

Asheville shopping

Friday 10-22-10

We spent the morning in downtown Asheville and went to the Mast General Store. I bought a lemon bar mix that I can't wait to try out. I really loved downtown Asheville! I could have spent so much longer exploring the shops and restaurants there, but we had to get back. I guess that just means that I'll have to go back soon.

I also successfully parallel parked- a big accomplishment for me haha.

Leaf season

Thursday 10-21-10

I have lots of pictures from today, but lets start with the one of the view of where we stayed. Even their view of their driveway is absolutely gorgeous. And their driveway is ridiculously steep, but I managed it like a pro!

We spent Thursday morning driving on the parkway and enjoying the scenery. It's so beautiful this time of year, I wanted to stop and take pictures every few minutes. Thankfully, Kara was willing to be my picture-taker since I was driving and driving while taking pictures is not exactly safe.

We hiked at this beautiful place called Graveyard Fields where there is a waterfall and lots of places to hike.

I took a ton more pictures, but I don't want to bore you all. I'll put the rest of them up on my facebook page!

I feel so collegic!!

Wednesday 10-20-10

On Wednesday, my friends, Kara and Rebecca, and I went up to Asheville for our fall break. I felt so collegic, actually going somewhere for our break instead of just going home for a couple of extra days. We didn't get there in time to take any pictures of the leaves on Wednesday, cause it was dark, but we got a couple of good pictures on the way of the sunset.

We stayed with Kara's aunt, which was amazing!! And in the basement was a really fun toy for Kara...

Really great news!!!

I went to Asheville for a couple of days and pictures are coming, but first I have some really awesome news!!!

If you remember a couple of weeks ago I posted this, http://aneverydaytarheel.blogspot.com/2010/09/ideas-please.html asking for fundraising ideas for the orphanage in India that I love so much because the girls were being evicted from their home. (If you haven't read it, please go read it)

WELL.

I just found out on their blog, that in the past few week ALL of the money ($25,000) that they need for the new home has been donated to them and they can buy the house!!! Isn't that amazing!! Our God is so great at providing for his people! I am so happy and relieved for them.

But.

They still have a great number of needs. This new house is still just temporary and will very soon be too small for them to house enough girls. They are often turning kids away because they don't have enough room. They need to move out onto their land.

I'm in the process of organizing a Parent's Date Night at the Summit and will give you more details shortly as soon as the date is finalized. But I'm going to need your help.

People without kids- Will you give up a Friday night and come help watch kids at the Cole Mill Rd Campus in exchange for helping to build a new home for them?

Parents- This should be a no brainer- Will you bring your kids to Cole Mill and let us play with them and teach them about missions while you go on a date in exchange for a donation to Crosspoint of India?

Imagine this empty field...

Filled with houses and 1000 orphans running around.

That's the vision, people. Will you help make it happen?

Hindi

Monday 10-16-10

The short stack is the one that I know... (well as of Monday, it was a little bigger today). We had our first Hindi exam today which meant two days full of memorizing word after word. Not fun.

Gotta love Durham

Sunday 10-17-10

I have always loved this house on Club Blvd in Durham. Maybe one day I'll have bathtubs in my front yard. How crazy do you think the people in India would think I am if I put bathtubs in my front yard?

A request please

Dear people who's blogs I stalk (you may know who you are, maybe not),

Please remember that you are my go-to form of procrastination. I would greatly appreciate it  if you would update your blogs frequently. It would really help me out. : )

Much love!!
Laura

PS- to those of you who have blogs that I don't know about, please comment with the URL. If you don't have a blog, think about starting one haha and then send me the URL (I'm talking to you, V).

Blogging on a Saturday Night

Saturday 10-16-10

Dinner, yummy cheesecake, a funny movie, and absolutely wonderful girls- the perfect Saturday night!!! Life as we Know it was better than I would have expected actually. It was predictable, but in unpredictable ways and really funny but also bittersweet. Also, at one point, the main guy insulted Katherine Heigel by asking her what she does on a Saturday night- what, blog? hehe, of course as soon as I got back, what did I do- blog. And I love it

Basketball season begins...

Friday 10-15-10

Ok, not that good of a picture- sorry. This was taken at the end of the night from the top of my dorm. The lit up roof is the Dean Dome for Late Night with Roy. I'm about to sound like a terrible UNC student- but I can't wait to be off campus simply for basketball season. It's always a mess, they block off roads and there's way too many people and lots of craziness. Oh, and parking SUCKS during the games haha. Just another reason were excited to get off campus.

Why I love my roommate

As far as roommates go, I think mine is pretty much the most awesome one out there. I'm totally blessed to have been able to live with her last year and to get to enjoy two more years with her after this one is over.

I wanted to share a fb conversation that we had about a year ago that Brynne found again on her blog.

This is pretty much why we're perfect for each other...

Brynne:
get to work!
youre lazy and a procastinator!
Laura: hey!!
Brynne: dont hey me
Laura:
i do not appreciate that
but its true
Brynne:

Laura:

I feel like such a grown up!!!

So, UNC friends (past and current), anyone live at Stratford Hills? That's where we went today and we really like it. What did you think? And anyone have any other suggestions?? We're looking for a super cheap 2-bedroom.

If there is one thing my roomate and I hate doing, it's taking out the recycling. I finally did it on Tuesday after about 3 weeks I think haha.

Happy Happy Happy Birthday!!

Monday 10-11-10

Today is my very dear friend, Elise's, birthday. She turned 19 (she's just a baby!!) and we had so much fun hanging out all together. I'm sad to say that in honor of her birthday I watched my second full episode of Gossip Girl- Elise, it's only cause I love you. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!

Speaking of birthdays- 28 days!!

Hopefully the only one like this this week- fingers crossed!

Sunday 10-10-10

(fun numbers hehe)

Lunch and reading in Davis. I know, I'm sorry, way too many pictures of Davis. but just think- take how boring it is for you to read about my life in davis and then multiply that by a bunch and you get how boring it is for me to live in davis- I'm not enjoying this any more than you are. But, I don't have much work this week and no class on Tuesday (YAYYY!!!) and I have some super fun things happening this week that I can't wait to show you!!! no spoilers though!

30 days left of getting away with being obnoxious by blaming it on being a teenager....

Game night

Saturday 10-9-10

Had an awesome time hanging out with some international students playing games. This was in the middle of a game called pterodactyl (who knew that had a 'p' in it, interesting). Kinda an awkward picture taking game haha but it was the only one that I took cause I was too busy teaching some people to play nerts. SUPER fun haha.

Side note- my birthday is in exactly a month from this day. And so I'm starting a countdown until I am no longer a teenager. 31 days to go. (I'm turning 20 haha, thought I should point that out)

The better way to study Shakespeare

Friday 10-8-10

Watch the hilarious Amanda Bynes and the gorgeous Channing Tatum play soccer.  It also makes a great Friday evening with friends. I had another picture that I liked a little better, Lindsey looked silly, but she didn't like it haha.

Our little Kara's all grown up

Thursday 10-7-10

This picture doesn't capture the fact that this bike is owned by a girl at least half a foot taller than Kara. Very entertaining to watch Kara attempt to ride it.

How many trashcans does a libray need?

Wednesday 10-6-10

(Like I said, a lot of time in Davis. Sorry K) But seriously, how many trashcans are needed in a library? And behind those big blue ones are MORE little brown ones. Glad to see our tuition is going to good use, definitely worth the hike this year so that Davis could buy 50 more trashcans- PER floor!

This is what Davis does to us...

Tuesday 10-5-10

We're going crazy!!! I spent WAY too much time in Davis this week. Not. Fun. At. All.

Pyscho Squirrels

Monday 10-4-10

The squirrels around here are a little bit crazy and I think I have an idea why. They eat Chick-fil-a. Now, I love Chick-fil-a, a lot. I am all for the Christian Chicken, but I just don't think that squirrels are really meant to be eating fast food, good grief, I don't think  we're really meant to be eating fast food.  But it is just so delightfully yummy. K, try to schedule your arrival for not Sunday this time and I will bring you some Chick-fil-a and a diet dr pepper.

Christmas Sponsors needed

Would you like to put a smile on a child's face this Christmas?

How about a precious, beautiful orphan from India?

Every year, Crossroads Worldwide takes a team of high school and college students to Central India to spend Christmas at an orphanage (this is the trip that I went on last Christmas). Part of the trip is getting to provide Christmas presents for the kids. This will probably be the only time during the year that these kids are given things specifically for each of them and it is truly a blessing to them.

Why am I telling you this?

Because you can be the one who provides such a small joy to these kids this Christmas. Crossroads is looking for people who will sponsor the kids by buying a few small presents for them that will be taken over with the team.

If you are interested, please e-mail me or Justin Brock at Crossroads for more information. Justin's e-mail is crwwmissions@gmail.com.

Please pray about whether or not this could be something that you do this Christmas.

And of course, I have some pictures to influence you! : )

And I have so many more, but I have a paper to write.

Please let me know if you're interested!!!

Exciting news!!

One more thing- in exactly one month from today, my blog is going to get a lot more exciting because....

drumroll please....

My sister will be back!!!!!

That's right starting November 3rd (or possibly the 4th, depending when she actually gets in), an Everyday Tar Heel will become an Everyday Tar Heel and her sister!!!

We're already planning all the guest appearances she will be making- pictures at the Old Well, the Krispy Kreme, Sakura, and so on and so on.

If you can't tell, I'm SOOOOO excited!!!!

Love you, K!! Can't wait to see you!!

I love fall!!

Fall clothes, fall weather, fall colors, fall leaves... I love it all!!!!

Sunday 10-3-10

It is finally beginning to get cool here and feel like fall. I brought some of my cute fall clothes here to school this weekend and have started wearing longsleeves! I love fall!! Definitely my favorite season! I also love the food! Finally, wonderful soups don't make you sweat! (yummy lunch with Hannah at Panera started this rant haha btw)

PS- Panera's macaroni and cheese is AMAZING!!!

Why going to school close to home is wonderful

Saturday 10-2-10

People often ask me what it's like going to school about 20 minutes away from home. I tell them that it's pretty great. And here is one of my reasons why...

In the whole time that I've been here, I've done about 2 loads of laundry here at school. A wonderful luxury to be able to go home and do my laundry for free, where I can catch up on my favorite tv shows, without commercials.

I think it's great only being 20 minutes away!

(Don't worry, Mom, your laundry machine and tv are not the only reasons why I like being close by)

Blogging study break

I thought I would post my weekend pictures tonight before my crazy week begins.

Friday  10-1-10

Some fun friends and I at the International Festival in Raleigh. We took a group of international students to Raleigh to enjoy the Festival and different cultural booths and food. The food was definitely the best part. It was set up like food stalls with each country having a different booth. It smelled absolutely wonderful and was not an easy decision to make haha. I love food from all over the world!
